  1. General – Go into an Internet search engine such as Google®  and type ‘Ghazali’.  You will be presented with thousands of entries.  This page, which may be important for other research writers, homes in on ones which we consider to be especially good and worthy of being bookmarked.  Accordingly the sites selected are in these four Categories:

Biographical Sites   Texts by Ghazali or about him

Texts On-line   Complete texts including The Alchemy of Happiness

Internet Bookshops   There are many and the recommend buying are translations by ITS (The Cambridge based Islamic Texts Society)

High Quality Academic Sites including probably the best;

al-Ghazali’s Website

  1. A sites’s exclusion does not necessarily imply that we did not like it.  More often the reason will be that, because of the number of Ghazali sites, we have not had the time to view them all.  Further, if you personally have, or know of a relevant site which you would like listed in these pages, then please send us its URL.
  2. Search Tips

-  Be highly selective and if a search engine begins to show work not relevant to Ghazali then go elsewhere.  Remember that some engines repeat others.  But if you have the time to spare to go through the thousands of entries then you might be able even to turn your on-line research into a degree!

-  For Noesis ®, Google ®, Alta Vista ® and Yahoo ® , you should are advised by Google to try further research under these headings:

                 Searching on Noesis:: ‘Philosophical Research On-Line: al-Ghazali’

                 Searching on Google:: ‘Ghazali’, ‘Ghazzali’, ‘Ghazaly’

                 Searching on Alta Vista:: ‘Ghazali’, ‘Ghazzali ‘Ghazaly’, ‘Imam Ghazali’

                 Searching on Yahoo::  ‘Ghazali’, ‘Ghazzali’, ‘Ghazaly’

-  Remember not to forget the obvious e.g. on-line encyclopaedias.  The Amazon Book Shop is very good because their texts may come with invited criticism from readers.  We found such amateur critics first-rate and often able to give new ideas and different ways for tackling issues.  Also included in this category is the Bibliography and Chapter Four in the Dissertation, where Peter quotes some of the comments made and the actual URL's.

The Winchester Al-Ghazali Web Site was originally published as ‘Peter Greenland’s Al-Ghazali Web Site’

on BT Internet in 1999
